Blank pages when printing from Windows or Macintosh

 

1.    Print a Printer Settings page on the machine by pressing OK or GO on the machine three times.

 

-      If you are getting a blank page or have missing text, then this indicates a problem with the machine's hardware and not the software.  This solution does not apply.

 

-      If your Brother machine successfully print the Printer Settings, then incorrect settings or a corrupt printer driver may cause the computer printing issue. Go to step 2.

 

2.    Adjust the printer driver. Follow the steps below for your operating system.

3.    Open the Printers folder.

 

Note For instructions, refer to: 'Open the Printers folder - Windows'

 

4.    Open the printer driver Properties:

 

-      Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10: Right click the Brother Printer and click Printer Properties.

 

-      Windows XP, Vista: Right click the Brother Printer and Properties.

 

5.    Click on the Advanced tab.

 

6.    Click the Print Processor button.

 

7.    Under Print Processor, select WINPRINT.

 

8.    Under Default Data type, make sure RAW is selected. Click OK.

 

9.    Under the Advanced tab, uncheck 'Keep printed documents'.

 

10. Click Apply.

 

11. Click on the General tab and click Print Test Page.

 

-      If the document prints correctly, then the issue is resolved.

 

-      If the document still prints blank, go to step 12.

 

12. You will need to uninstall and then reinstall the print driver. 

 

Uninstall - 'Run the Uninstall Tool to remove plug and play drivers - Windows'

 

Reinstall - Refer to a solution for your model for Configuring or Installing the printer or you may also reinstall using the CD-ROM if it is available and compatible with your operating system.

 

13. Attempt to print again to determine if the issue has been resolved.

 

-      If the document prints correctly, then the issue is resolved.

 

-      If the document does not print correctly, then the issue is likely related to the computer or the application.  Contact your computer manufacturer or application vendor for further assistance.

 

 

Macintosh

 

3.    Open Printers & Scanners

 

Note For instructions, refer to: 'Open Print & Scan - Macintosh' 

 

4.    Highlight the Brother printer driver that you would like to delete from the list.

 

Note If the printer driver is not listed, go to step 8.

 

5.    Click the - (Minus) button located below the Printers section on the left side.

6.    Click OK or DELETE PRINTER to confirm that you want to delete the printer.

7.    If you have multiple copies of the Brother printer driver, repeat steps 4 - 6 for each copy.

 

8.    Click the + (Plus) button located below the Printers section on the left side.

 

9.    Click the Default Icon located at the top of the window.

 

Note If you receive a pop-up showing 'Nearby Printers', click Add Other Printer or Scanner.

 

10. Select your machine from the Printer Name list.

 

Note If your Printer is not in the list, the printer is not connected to your computer or network. Refer to a solution for your model for Configuring or Installing the printer or you may also reinstall using the CD-ROM if it is available and compatible with your operating system.

 

11. From the Use or Print Using list, make sure that you have selected the CUPS Driver (most common) shown as: Brother XXXXXX CUPS. (XXXXXX is the machine's model).

-      If the CUPS Driver is not available from the Use or Print Using list, the printer driver is not installed. Refer to a solution for your model for Configuring or Installing the printer or you may also reinstall using the CD-ROM if it is available and compatible with your operating system.

 

-      For AirPrint compatible models: If the AirPrint driver is selected, then you will not have the full functionality of the printer driver.  Instead, choose the CUPS Driver as detailed above.

 

12. Click ADD. The Brother printer driver will now be available in the list.

13. Close Printer & Scanners.

 

14. Attempt to print again.

 

-      If the document prints correctly, then the issue is resolved.

 

-      If the document does not print correctly, then the issue is likely related to the computer.  Contact your computer manufacturer for further assistance.
